Establishing a Routine
I will start by stating, I am not the type to have a planner or a schedule book on hand by any means. I use my phone calendar the most when it comes to being organized and I am the person that snoozes 5 alarms in the morning just to get up… I read couple books about what a healthy successful person’s life looks like and they all had this in common. You need to have some type of structure or routine to help you stay on track and keep you accountable.
Once I connected the dots, after reading Single on Purpose by I realized I had to connect with my inner child. She loved to dance, climb trees, explore and loose herself in nature. So, twice a week I take dance class straight from the office. This helps me stay in shape and is mentally rewarding. My days off I try to spend time in nature, hikes, beaches, trails etc. Whatever your views on religion are, for me church on Sundays in mandatory to start my week feeling peaceful and energized. After a few months of sticking to this I realized I am the happiest I been on my own, in charge of my own routine, life and practicing healthy boundaries which ultimately leads to the balance my soul was craving for.
I am not the type to want to dedicate time for chores, but I realize getting my errands done early in the morning works best for me. Where before I would let piles of laundry stack up until they were sky high…now on Mondays that’s the first thing I do. I also do all my selfceare that day, hair, nails, eyebrows etc..and it works. After that I have time for friends. I should add that at this time all of my close friends and I were all on the same journey in one way or another.
So steps to establishing a routine,
1) be realistic with your priorities and your time (can’t do it all in one day, recipe for disaster)
2) schedule 3 categories : ex. chores, selfcare, family, friends, alone time, relationship etc
3)Hold yourself accountable
4) repeat
It takes the average person at least 30 days to consistently do something until it becomes a habit, routine. We are creatures of our environment and habits establish one that enhances your performance and nurtures your being.
