Positive Affirmations

They say how you feel on the inside is what you project on the outside. How you feel about yourself also determines what you allow, how you let people treat you and your self worth. From a young age we learn quickly to buy into what society considers the norm. The very unlikely unrealistic expectations that the media, social media, Hollywood and pop culture expects us to be, look like, act like etc. If you’re anything like me, you looked up to models, read endless volumes of Seventeen and Cosmo girl magazines. You wanted to look like you were size 2, obsessed with the day your thighs didn’t rub against each other and you would feel confident to wear a bikini. You also couldn’t wait for your happy ever after, a hopeless romantic who wanted to be swept off her feet…which as an adult now we know its a load of BS! Because everything takes hard work and as recovering perfectionist there’s is no such thing as perfect. Instead of striving for perfection and living your life in a righteously manner strive for progress.

When it came having a positive image and view with myself, in my late twenties I discovered there was alot of unlearning to do. You don’t have to look a certain way, you are you and that is what makes you unique. I struggled with finding my identity after pretending for a really long time that I had the perfect little happy life, it was all pretend and the truth was I didn't even know who I was…by the time I was 23 I was force to start over and many of my core values were tested in the process.

I remember moving back to my hometown and asking myself who am I? What do I like to do? Who am I if I am not someone’s partner, friend, mentor, community member, business entrepreneur and I had no idea how to really be honest with myself.

That’s when one of my mentor’s introduced me to positive affirmations, I was determine to create a new life for me one where I was true to myself. She said make a list of all the things you are and it may seem cliche but repeat these things about yourself when you look in the mirror and I guarantee after consistently doing it you will feel better about your self. I am statements are powerful. Remember what you say to yourself you believe…sometimes we are our worst critic.

Here is my list, and I challenge you to create your own. Try it consistently for 30 days, if it didn’t work at least you tried! And since you got nothing to loose there’s no risk!
