Unexpected Trials and Tribulations
Sometimes in life, we are forced to face unexpected trials and tribulations that may be considered a setback on our path. There are two ways to look at these times we all experience at some point in our lives. One is how I can use this happening to propel me forward, and another is questioning why… We are all guilty of doing both. For example, if we have a career setback, we will feel discouraged and upset, but I challenge you to change your mindset. What is this trying to teach me? How can I use this in the future to become a better professional? I'm religious, so I ask God and the universe what you are trying to show me. Are you teaching me patience? I trust your plans are larger than mine, and I put my faith in your hands.
When something difficult happens in my life, I give myself three days to complain, argue, and cry about it. I feel all the emotions out, but on the fourth day, I begin to strategize and plan to move forward. It's okay to be upset during trials, but don't stay there too long. Instead, change your mindset, be honest and raw with yourself, and don't ignore your emotions or be controlled by them; use them for your personal character development.
Another example is in relationships, sometimes we experience setbacks, and we must be honest and self-examine. It takes two to tango; you are part of a team experiencing difficulties, whether it is communication, morals, beliefs, or repressed emotions and different attachment styles. A setback doesn't mean it's over. It's an opportunity to analyze what is working and what is not. If communication is not as desired, allow yourself to have an open conversation and work out a plan that benefits both halves of the team.
The idea of trials and tribulations in our lives is that they are temporary setbacks that sometimes allow us to self-reflect on different areas of our lives. They are there to give us the opportunity to become problem solvers, deal with difficult situations, and build strength, discipline, and resilience. But they are NOT there to make us bitter, discouraged, or give up!
